Lets Get Energized (part of Dorset Energized) is a not-for-profit organisation run by people who are passionate about renewable energy and protecting nature.

This website was set up by a few guys based in Dorset in the South West of the UK, who thought it was a good idea! We first met in 2011 at a meeting of the Dorset Energy Partnership’s Community Sustainable Energy Working Group, a partnership of organisations and individuals in Dorset formed to support the take-up of renewable energy by community groups and initiatives. We are very grateful to the ethical companies who shared our vision and have supported us in launching and developing this website including; Respect Organics, DA21 Sustainable Dorset, the Dorset Energy Advice Centre (DEAC), F.J Chalke Wincanton, NGPS Renewable Energy, Ace Energy, Good Energy and Ecotricity.

You can get in touch with us here – we’d love to hear from you!

  • Vince Adams - Founder & Co-Director

Vince is the Chairman of Transition Town Sturminster Newton (TTSN) and was key in initiating Dorset Energized and instigating our growth into Lets Get Energized. Vince is a passionate advocate for renewable energy. His company Respect Organics based in Shaftesbury Dorset, which he runs with his wife Lin and adult children as the UK's leading organic cake producers, are also proud of their relationship with our campaign to inspire people to get energized with renewable energy by engaging and enhancing the fulfilment of everyone to help reduce every family's energy costs today, whilst protecting the landscape, wildlife and the planet we all live on for future generations.

  • Paul McIntosh - Co-Director

Paul has been working on local sustainability projects in Dorset since he left University. He chairs the Dorset Community Sustainable Energy Group, a network of individuals and community groups working on energy issues throughout the county.

  • Sophia Karlberg - Co-Director

Sophia moved to France from Sweden with her family when she was 15 years old. She graduated as an Environmental Engineer in 2008 and started her career in a municipality in France working with the rehabilitation of landfills and setting up water treatment stations. Later she became responsible for the implementation of the "Energy and Climate Plan" for the municipality. In early 2013 Sophia was working as an environmental educator in a school in the South West of India before moving to Salisbury in the UK. It was there she meet the then Dorset Energized team and got involved in our positive energy! She is now a Co-Director of Lets Get Energized. In parallel, Sophia is currently working at Tempus Energy, a clean-tech company in London focusing on smart energy management.

He has acted as agent to achieve planning consents and environmental licenses for numerous small scale wind, solar, biomass and hydropower projects as well as project managing some of them to completion. He is a Director of Energize Stur Valley Industrial and Provident Society Ltd, which aims to install renewable energy projects in the Sturminster Newton and surrounding areas for the benefit of the community and enable community investment.

  • Theresa McManus - Renewable Energy Consultant

We are very grateful to have had Theresa McManus from the Dorset Energy Advice Centre (DEAC) help us initially put together all our website's key content when we started out as Dorset Energized. After doing a degree in Politics at Portsmouth Polytechnic, he has had various jobs from the timber trade to publishing and then mail order. He also worked at the Dorset County Council but after ending up with severe Upper Limb Disorder (a form of RSI) as a result, was made redundant due to disability. Since then he has tried where possible to do what he loves and has a passion for. He was in the Ecology Party (who became the Green Party) before anyone had heard of global warming or carbon footprint, and now albeit as someone semi-disabled, he does what he can to promote all things which help the environment, nature, and humanity.

Our mission is to get the UK Energized by connecting YOU with renewable energy!

Lets Get Energized (part of Dorset Energized) is a not-for-profit organisation that exists purely to increase the uptake of renewable energy and to help people save energy. Our aim is to provide impartial advice and information, in a friendly format.

We all (as individuals, households, businesses and communities) need to:
1) invest in renewable energy today
2) reduce our energy demand by becoming more energy efficient and sustainable.

We would like to help everyone feel informed about why renewable and sustainable energy is important. We would like to help everyone know what renewable technologies are available, and their advantages and disadvantages, so that you can have confidence in exploring the options that will work for you, and to take the next step. After all, there’s little point learning about how to install a small hydro-electricity system if you don’t have access to suitable running water!

Lets Get Energized

Dorset is a very beautiful county and contains such fabulous areas of outstanding natural beauty, supporting high biodiversity and many rare species, that living here helps us to understand how much more we need to work together with nature, rather than against. It is very important to work at a local level when it comes to community energy generation, but since we launched our website in 2012 we have realised that much of the information here is relevant for all UK home owners and tenants, so in October 2014 we expanded to become Lets Get Energized. Nationally and locally our aim is to communicate at every level with the great success stories and important new developments that are inspiring a new generation. We hope to improve our site even further over the coming year and welcome your feedback and hope you will continue on the journey with us. You can also still meet our team at local events under the banner of Dorset Energized.
